Productive Deer Hunting Secrets
This article provides tips and tactics to be used by a deer hunter.
A few years ago I found myself very sick in the middle of deer season. I hunted for about an hour at a time and went back to my Dad's truck to get warm. In the afternoon he had to run into town which left me with two options, go with him in the warm truck or stay in the woods with my fever and shiver. I choose to shiver. Hunting in a productive hollow I began the steep descent down to a little creek. From the creek, I would have to scale a long and steep bank to get up to the next ridge. Coughing and hacking, I decided that I simply did not have the energy to hike up the steep hill. I turned around and headed back up to the first ridge from where I had started. Within a few yards of turning around the coughing got the better of me and I leaned against a tree to vomit. While fertilizing the forest floor with my lunch, a single doe bolted into view. Quickly a nice buck stepped out behind her. I gave my face a quick wipe, grabbed my gun, I took what was my largest buck up to that point. So is the flu the secret? No, persistence is. No matter what the situation you are only able to take a deer while hunting. Hunt whenever you can regardless of personal discomfort, time, etc.
Other deer hunting secrets are just as simple. Shoot your gun a lot before season. Have it sighted in and be ready to shoot from a variety of positions. Deer don't often show up in front of sandbags, shoot off the side of a tree, sitting, kneeling, standing, out of your tree stand, be ready for whatever shot presents itself.
If you are in the woods and ready to make the shot you are likely to be far more successful than when equipped with the latest and greatest gadget while relaxing at home.
