Missouri Whitetail Archery Deer Hunting Season Opener
Missouri Whitetail Deer Hunting Season opened Saturday September 15, 2020 for Archery. Some things to remember and link to the State site.
Some things that we would like to point out, are to always be alert and observant. Watch that you do not invade on an area where there is already another hunter. Be courteous if you do come upon another hunter. Keep your eyes open for snakes, and for Feral Hogs as well as other critters. There have been a lot of Feral Hogs seen here and even more damage seen due to the hogs that are coming out nocturnally at this time.
Be sure to read all the seasons rules and regulations and be familiar with them, especially for your area. They do change from one part of the State to the next. You can find 3 informative booklets at any retailer who sells hunting licenses. They are the Wildlife Code of Missouri, Missouri Hunting and Trapping Regulations, and the 2020 Fall Deer amp; Turkey Hunting Regulations put out by the Missouri Department of Conservation. You can also find info on the web at www.mdc.mo.gov. Be familiar with the ways to check in your deer and what the time limit is. Be sure to check in ALL deer. Otherwise you may get a visit from the Conservation Agent in your area. Poaching is not taken lightly.
Something that seems like common sense, but is often overlooked is watching for purple posted paint, no tresspassing or private property signs, and fences. If there is a fence, generally it separates property lines. Be sure before you cross a fence to make sure you have permission to cross it. Do not hunt where you are not allowed. You may find yourself face to face with the local Conservation Agent, or the local Sheriff. And I assure you, neither will be friendly. Don't assume that because you have hunted a property for years and now there is a new owner that you will be automatically allowed to continue hunting that property. The new owners may be hunters also. They wouldn't necessarily want other people scenting up the property. So be sure to talk to them. Besides, neither of you want a surprise in the woods early one morning!
Respect the Forestland. If you are in an area where you hunt the National Forests, respect the area, leave it as clean or cleaner than when you arrived. Remove all your trash when you leave. Obey the regulations and signage. If there is no 4 wheel, ATV or motorized vehicle use in that area, don't decide it doesn't apply to you, it means everyone.
And last but not least, tell someone where you are going before you go. You are going into the woods, and you never know what might happen. Wear your safety harness. By letting someone know where you will be, if your harness fails, and you don't return within a reasonable time from when you said you would, hopefully that person will be in touch with others who can start a search to find you. It would be better to find you just got tied up waiting on that big buck to get into position and are now running late, than to find that you had an accident are now hurt or worse.
