Fall Hunting Season in Illinois 2020: Preview
Small game season begins August 1st.
Upland and small game hunting opens on August 1st. Woodchuck and Groundhog season is already here. Squirrel, both gray and fox, opens on August 1st. However. both of the seasons close during the firearm deer season.
On November 1st, Rabbit, both Swamp and Cottontail, begins. Also on that date, Cock Pheasant, Quail, and Hungarian Partridge open. Each of these have closings dates depending on what part of the State that you live in.
The limits on your take are the following. Rabbits- 4 per day and 10 possession, Pheasant- 2 and 6, Quail-8 and 20, Partridge-2 and 6, Squirrel- 5 and 10.
The two major game that hunters like to go after is Turkey and Deer. Lets first go over Turkey. Bow season in the fall for Turkey is broken down into three sections. They run October 1 through November 20th, November 24th through the December 3rd, and December 8th through January 15th. Shotgun season for Turkey is October 25th through the November 2nd. Both are one half hour before sunrise to sunset. The limit on turkeys is one per permit and two in possession.
Deer season for Bow runs October 1st through January 15th. Except it is closed during firearm season for deer on the dates of November 21,22, and 23rd and December 4, 5,6, and 7th. There is basically two seasons for firearm deer hunting. The limit on deer is one per permit, regardless of Bow or Firearm.
Muzzle-loader season only is December 12,13, and 14th. Archery hunting is open during this part of the season as well.
When it comes to hunting in Illinois, all hunters are required to have a hunting license as well as tags for their turkey and deer. Turkey pins run $5. They should be filled out and placed around the leg of the Turkey. Deer tags are also $5.
