In my quest I have found that sometimes the most popular places to shop for holiday decorations can produce a treasure of interesting ornaments. Hobby Lobby, located on Veteran's Parkway in the Shoppes at College Hills, has a tremendous variety of ideas for ornament buying. Two years ago, I found a purple and black dragonfly for my Secret Santa buddy. Purple and black were her favorite color and she was mad for dragonflies. I have seen everything from a couture high heel shoe to a rodeo Santa; it is worth checking out.
The Festival of Trees, a fund raiser benefiting The Baby Fold, holds a bevy of holiday decorations. You can purchase individual ornaments or go all out and bid on a fully decorated tree; the trees have a variety of themes. This is a chance to find a unique ornament while also benefiting a wonderful organization. Purchasing an ornament here would be a gift that gives more than once.
Finally, we come to my favorite of all ornament shopping stores, The Garlic Press. This is the site where I purchased my favorite ornament of all time, the Christmas Pickle. The selection is small, but the ornaments are beautifully crafted and vary year to year. They usually have a selection of German Glass ornaments and I have also seen ornaments depicting Frank Lloyd Wright pieces as well as wooden puzzle games. The whole store is a fun and unique shopping experience. Not only can you shop, but when you are done stop by the café and have a coffee or some delectable baked goods.
The time is almost upon us. The winds are blowing in the Holiday Season, before we know it there will be frost on the windows and wreaths on our doors. Christmas can be a stressful and busy time of year so a wonderfully whimsical tree or the look on a friends face as they open a box containing their own Christmas Pickle can be a wonderful reminder of what Christmas is really all about.
