Three Best .22 Rifle Models for a New Gun Owner
A review of the Ruger 10/22, Marlin Model 60 and CZ - 455 American; three of the most reliable and accurate firearms for plinking and small game hunting.
Ruger 10/22
Approximate Price: $300
Well-built and ridiculously customizable, the Ruger 10/22 is one of the most popular autoloading rifles in existence today. In addition to its quality "out of the box" design, a whole world of aftermarket parts and accessories are available to customize the 10/22 to your exact specifications. From a match grade barrel to a Gatling gun conversion kit, this rifle can easily be reinvented to meet any shooter's individual needs.
Marlin Model 60
Approximate Price: $200
A truly classic design, the Marlin Model 60 offers a more traditional option for those in the market for a simple and reliable .22 rifle. This autoloader comes in a variety of styles and utilizes a tubular fed magazine mounted underneath the barrel; a feature many prefer over Ruger's detachable rotary magazine. While not nearly as customizable as the 10/22, the Model 60 offers shooters on a budget renowned reliability at a reasonable price.
CZ - 455 American
Approximate Price: $400
In a different class than the above mentioned firearms, the CZ - 455 American is a bolt-action rifle that actually comes with two different barrels; the first designed for the widely available .22 LR cartridge and the other for .17 HMR. Target shooters and hunters from all over the world will tell you that this is one of the most accurate "out of the box" rimfire rifles on the market. Its price is a bit steeper than either the Ruger 10/22 or the Marlin Model 60, but the quality and ability to easily switch between two popular cartridges seems to justify the cost.
