Apolinar
He's the best sling shot thrower in the universe, his name is Polin. Birds, lizards and rabbits, watch out!
Soccer has Pele, baseball has Babe Rooth, but the sling shooters have Apolinar, best known as Polin. People say that when he was born, a slingshot was already hanging from his neck. Then as he would grow up, his mastery with this deadly weapon increased. In the old times there were wild turkeys roaming through the hills of Guanajuato, the last of it was ready to be cooked in Polin's frying pan.
Polin lived to his saying which goes something like this: "any thing that runs, eats or flies, is ready to fry."
Every time he went hunting, he took a huge sack full of rocks. He would bring the same sack back home, full of dead birds, rabbits and other already extinct animals around the area. One time I asked him to aim to a bird at the top of a tree and he said, "that is so easy, why not one already flying instead."
When I was a little kid he would walk across an empty field, and I would run after him, yelling: "Polin, Polin, would you sell me one of your sling shooters?" He would then take one of the ten sling shots that hanged from his neck and would give it to me. "He would say, here little kid, this one was especially made for you." Then I would gladly take it saying: "Woow, thank you Polin, I will take good care of it for ever."
I did not have a good aim, so I would always say "Oh, poor birds, let them fly and eat free, I am so glad I just missed them." Polin, in the other hand would say, "Let them fly and eat a little more, they are still skinny." There were no rocks to shoot with at the Mezquite forest in my small village in Guanajuato, until Polin and other of his hunter friends, filled the fields with them. After, there were a lot of rocks but nothing to shoot at.
He's a legend, he's a living legend. His 20/20 eye sight could be a 40/40. Now that I am here lonely, remembering people who saw me growing up, he still is one of my best friends. "Apoliniza, esala la Poliniza". Un saludo de un amigo."
