Ghost_Fighters

I wrote this poem when my son was born. Writing this poem sorta took the stress away. It was an early poem for me to write, however I enjoyed the two famous Western Gun Slingers from the past, arriving to help a troubled city. Enjoy.

Ghost - Fighters

The Sheriff quit,

Before he was shot,

This left the job open,

Esthman Lee filled the slot.

Esthman was young,

A new kid in town,

Sorta naive,

He hadn't been around.

Three young men,

Approached him and said,

"Step down from your job,

Or you'll be dead."

Esthman told them, No!

And they drove away,

A shot was fired,

Esthman yelled, I'll stay.

One day later,

Esthman received a letter,

Things will get worse,

-- -- . Not better.

As he looked at the letter,

And that's all it said,

He remembered the men saying,

"You'll be dead."

Esthman picked up his rifle,

And he yelled out with fear,

"Wyatt and Mat,

Why can't you be here?"

With a clap of thunder,

And a sonic boom,

What appeared to be two men,

Had entered the room.

The two men who entered,

Were Wyatt Earp and Matt Dillon,

They said, we're here,

To take care of your villain.

We've cleaned up our towns,

We can do the same for you,

Crime is still crime,

It's nothing new.

You don't understand,

Sheriff Esthman said,

My town's over run with drugs,

And aren't you dead?

Matt told the Sheriff,

Give us one day,

We'll give you, your town back,

So, the kids can play.

The three young men,

That said the Sheriff would die,

Wyatt stood in front of them,

And stared them in the eye.

Mat and Wyatt,

They stood so tall,

Their full length coats,

Not bought in any mall.

"You see this park?

We're taking it back,

So the kids can play,

Without being attacked.

Cowboy, you'll have to fight,

One of them said,

And by the way,

Aren't you dead?

Mat just grinned,

And sternly said,

"You better move on,

Or you'll be dead."

One boy took a shot,

He hit mat in the throat,

The bullet, came out,

In the back of his coat.

Everyone froze,

A silence was heard,

No one uttered,

Not a single word.

Mat just stood there,

Pulling his coat over his gun,

O.K. Cowboy,

Now, let's have some fun.

That's all it took,

For a good gun fight,

Three young mothers,

Won't sleep tonight.

When the shooting was over,

Wyatt picked up his hat,

He sorta looked up,

"Nice shooting Matt."

They yelled back to Esthman,

Saying here is your town,

If you need us again,

We'll be around.

Before they left,

Esthman heard them say,

Let me tell you how it was,

Back in our day --.

Justice was quick,

Not prolonged,

Right was right,

And wrong was wrong.

We didn't have drugs,

Dealers and dope,

We'd hang em' all,

At the end of a rope.

Justice, Lawyers,

And Politics,

Our brand of justice,

Was the kind that sticks.

Mat just smiled,

And said with a grin,

I hope you find justice,

As we had then.

"We've come in peace,

To a troubled land,

Drugs can kill,

Don't you understand?"

They mounted their horses,

And they began to ride,

They stood in their stir-ups,

And gave each a high-five.

As the Ghost '" Fighters rode,

Along their way,

Esthman said to himself,

I wish they could stay.

In our town,

In the city square,

Is a monument saying,

"We'll be there".

Etched in the monument,

Are the faces of the two men,

There is hope in our town,

A new future will begin.

When they left our town,

It was drug free,

They left it in charge,

Of, Sheriff Esthman Lee.
