Gun Review: Ruger Bolt Action Model 77

The Ruger Model 77's action is strongly built to apparently handle more pressure than it will ever need. The massive locking lugs on the one piece bolt lock tightly and smoothly. The controlled feed of the Ruger 77 is another feature than many people favor. While I must admit that I can't recall a failure to feed on any of my push feed rifles, the controlled feed appears to be more reliable which is why it is favored by dangerous game hunters who might be cycling the action while running or even getting mauled! One small item of note on the Ruger Model 77 is the built in scope mounts and the included scope rings. The scope mounts on the Ruger Model 77 are machined into the receiver. This means that the mounts cannot ever come loose and will always provide a stable platform. The inclusion of the built in scope mount and scope rings also lowers the cost of outfitting the rifle for hunting and shooting.
The stock design of the Ruger Model 77 is traditional and works great for most people. My experience with the Ruger Model 77 includes firing and hunting with a .243 Winchester, .270 Winchester, and 30-06. None of these Ruger's had much kick which must be owed to the stock design and recoil pad. Among some hunters and shooters, the Ruger Model 77 has a reputation for being inaccurate. It seems that there may have been some problems in the past, but all of the ones that I have shot were perfectly acceptable for hunting purposes. Ruger does have a reputation for outstanding customer service in case of problems. Personally, I find it hard to believe that the accuracy problems could have been too bad for too long due to the fact that the Ruger Model 77 seems to have sold well for decades.
The Ruger Model 77 is a traditional rifle available in many variations including blued or stainless steel, walnut or synthetic stocks, right and left hand actions, and others. Simply, the Ruger Model 77 is a quality rifle at a reasonable price.
