Zach Brown's 5 Tips For Deer Hunting in PA
Zach Brown's 5 tips for deer hunting in PA
5)Get a good nights sleep- This one probably seems a bit obvious, but depending on your hunting style, whether it be sitting in a stand, or the walk and stop approach, you can never be rested up too much for a good day of hunting. If your a stand hunter and you are sleep deprived you're likely to fall asleep in your stand and let that trophy buck walk by undetected. If you are a walk and stand hunter you might not feel up to covering as much ground if you're too sleepy to be walking all day.
4)Be prepared for the weather- Again this should be fairly obvious, but nothing is worse than shaking all day because you've dressed for hunting in a balmy 60 degrees only to discover it's snowing out. The best advice here is to layer, you can always take clothes off, but it's a real big hassle to go back to your house to grab more clothes if you aren't hunting nearby.
3)Have the right gun and ammo- Don't go overboard here. It's just a deer, you aren't hunting Elk. For years I hunted with a .243 and I used home loaded ballistic tip bullets. That caliber never had any trouble dropping a deer, and the it would save the best part of the hunt by not unnecessarily wasting good meat.
2)Know the area- Nothing would be worse than getting lost in the woods. So make sure you know the area very thoroughly, or you might want to consider purchasing a hand held gps, that way in the event you would lose your way, it would tell you how to find your way back to a preset starting point.
1)Be safe and legal- The hunting laws are constantly changing, so be sure to keep up to date with the current laws and regulations, to avoid getting a fine. More importantly be safe, nobody wants to hear a story about an accidental shooting. Keep your safety on when you aren't shooting, and always keep your gun pointed in a safe direction. Have a safe and successful hunt this year, and if you have any questions or would like some advanced advice feel free to leave a comment at the bottom and I'll get back to you as soon as possible.
