Easy Steps to Follow to Be Ready for Bow Hunting
Easy steps to follow to make sure you are ready to start Bow Hunting Season.
First of all, make sure your bow is in working order. You don't want to get out and see a Turkey or Deer then realize your bow isn't working properly. Check your bow at least the day before you are heading out to hunt. There are four important things to check on your bow:
1. Bow Limbs - Check for any cracks or damage to your bow limbs.
2. Bow String - Make sure your string has not 'dry rotted' or has any tears. Also wax your string with appropriate wax for the type of string you are using. Most string wax has instructions included with your purchase.
3. String Draw Weight - This is the weight of the pull that is on your string when you are drawing (or pulling) it back. Make sure that you can comfortably pull the string back, from a shooting position, without any strain.
4. Accuracy - It is important to check the accuracy of your shot ahead of time. You can do this by setting up a bow target and trying to hit the center. If your shot is way off of the center then you will want to adjust your sights or your shot accordingly. If you are experiencing difficulty, take your bow to the nearest bow or archery shop for assistance.
Next, you will want to check the arrows that you are using. You can easily shoot some practice shots at a target to view the results of your arrows. It is not safe to use arrows that are to short or light for the bow and string weight you are using. If you are purchasing arrows, make sure the size and weight is appropriate for your type of bow. Always ask a sales associate if you are unsure on the type of arrows to use.
Finally, before you set out, always check the laws and regulations for the area or zone that you are going to hunt. You can easily pick-up a hunting guide at your local sportsman shop or contact your state Wildlife Conservation office if you are unsure. There are different laws for different areas, so don't assume you know the law, make sure you know it. Most importantly, always be safe, and remember your fellow hunters that are out there as well. Happy Bow-Hunting!
