Having the right equipment and knowing some important tips can make or break a ghost hunting experience. Read about it here.
And actually ghost hunting is pretty easy to do and there are very little equipment one needs. Still if one is going to do it a lot its good to acquire some basic equipment that one probably doesn't have around the house. A flashlight is the most common thing that you should have with you to ghost hunt. The second is a camera of sorts. I prefer to use digital cameras just because then you don't have to worry about processing problems or have to wait at all to see results. Most people are pretty eager to see if they have an orb (white or colored circles that are ghosts) or ghost person in the photo. Another useful tool to have around is a tape recorder. Sometimes a tape recorder will pick up voice that you might not otherwise here. The tapes should be reviewed later for any weird noises or voices that may be caught. A more expensive piece of equipment would be a gauss or EMF meter. Often times if a ghost is around the levels will jump. When using it, be aware if there may be electrical reasons why the meter may spike. Some people also use temperature gauges, as temperatures often drop when a ghost is around or trying to materialize.
There are also a few tips people should have. One of the first tips is to have ID on you. Because you are walking around an area at night someone may stop you and ask who you are. Always have a flashlight with you. Even if you prefer to walk around in the dark a flashlight should be on hand in case something unexpected happens and for safety reasons. Also do not go alone. This is also for safety reasons. If you somehow get hurt, even a sprained ankle it is helpful to have someone around to be able to help. The other reason to have another person around for ghost hunting is so that there is another set of eyes to see and to attest to what happened. Another tip I have is don't provoke the ghosts. Some know they are dead, others don't, but in any case would you like it if someone started screaming at you to do something? Not only is it insulting it can get a person into trouble.
When you go out on your ghost hunting expedition some may go out open and overly trusting they will see a ghost and others are extremely skeptical. Really though, the healthiest way to go about it is with an open mind that's willing to be at least partially cynical. Orbs in a photograph could be a ghost, but it can also be dust spots, snow or rain. Lights in a picture can also be a result of background lights or reflections so always take note of your surroundings when taking photographs.
