Top 5 Qualities to Look for in a Pair of Deer Hunting Boots
This article briefly discusses five qualities to look for when purchasing a pair of deer hunting boots.
Are you thinking about buying your first pair of deer hunting boots this year? If so you may want to take a look at my list of the top five qualities to look for in a pair of hunting boots. Here it is:
Solid Construction
The first attribute that a deer hunter should look for in a pair of hunting boots is sound construction. Most hunting boots are made from leather, synthetic fabric, natural fabric or rubber that is attached to outsoles with stitching or cement. Each fabric and construction method has its own pros and cons. I would recommend that deer hunters consider purchasing hunting boots that are made from a fabric and leather blend. I would also suggest that deer hunters select a hunting boot that is held together with either a Goodyear Welt or a Process 82 method. In my experience, those types of hunting boots tend to last far longer than fabric hunting boots constructed with cement.
Rugged Outsole
The second attribute that a deer hunter should look for in a pair of hunting boots is a rugged outsole. I would suggest that hunters select a pair of hunting boots that has outsoles that are equipped with either air bobs or lugs because they tend to work well on a variety of terrain. Personally, I prefer the air bobs because they don't seem to track as much dirt into the house as lug clad outsoles.
Sufficient Insulation
The third attribute that a deer hunter should look for in a pair of hunting boots is sufficient insulation. The amount of insulation that a deer hunter needs will vary based on where he or she plans on hunting. As a general rule of thumb, hunters living in colder climates will want to look for a higher degree of insulation than those that live in warmer locations. I'd also recommend that hunters examine where the insulation is located inside the hunting boot as not all boots feature even levels of insulation.
Waterproofing
The fourth attribute that a deer hunter should look for in a pair of hunting boots is waterproofing. This is especially important for hunters that are apt to trek through snow and water. I'd also suggest that hunters factor in the hunting boots' construction when it comes to waterproofing issues. In my experience, a pair of poorly constructed hunting boots is apt to let water seep in through the fabric and seams.
Comfortable Fit
The fifth attribute that a deer hunter should look for in a pair of hunting boots is a comfortable fit. I would recommend that in order to get the right fit that hunters wear their favorite pair of hunting socks when trying on hunting boots. That way they are more likely to get a realistic idea of how the hunting boots will fit out in the field.
