Deer Hunting Tips for Beginning Bow Hunters

Due to the difficulty of bow hunting it can be hard to master, but here are three things that beginning bow hunters can do to improve their skills.

The first is to practice, practice, and practice some more. You need to shoot at least a few quivers of arrows a week, every week, year around. If possible fire at least a shot or two a day. This helps the hunter deal with the realistic hunting situation of firing a bow with out warming up. Practice helps build skill and confidence that you are taking an appropriate shot and can make the shot that you take.

Step two for a beginning bow hunter to become better is to go into the woods with a plan that you believe and trust. Nothing is worse than moving from one location to another and jumping a deer. With a gun a running shot at a deer is sometimes sporting and ethical, but it is never with a bow. Jumping a deer with bow in hand is just exercise and not hunting. Scout the area that you are going to hunt, pick stand locations that you feel will put you in a good place to succeed and stick with them.

The third way to improve your beginning bow hunter skills is to hunt. While certainly good information can be gathered from practice, scouting, reading magazines, watching videos and talking to others there is no substitute for the skills that hunting will provide you with over time. When to gamble on moving in front of a deer, when to sit tight, when to go to the deep woods, and when to go into fields are all more a matter of art than science. The only way to learn which one is the best pick is to learn from actual mistakes that you have made.

Good luck on your bow hunting trips and be ethical and be safe.
