Haunted Hunting Season: The Top Five Most Haunted Hot Spots of North Dakota

A lovely state known for its farming lifestyle and brilliant hunting season, North Dakota is a wonderful place to visit. Sounds like a great place for a haunt. Countdown with us to the top haunted hotspot of North Dakota.

5) Camp Mondak, Dunseith: The Reform Camp

This spot used to be a ranch camp for the reformation of boy criminals. Unfortunately, one night there was a murder of the camp counselors by five boys. One of the night was said to have gone and hung himself quietly after the whole affair. In the spot near that very tree that is sounds of laughter on the least haunted days. On the days on which the spirits are much more mobile you not only will hear laughter, but there will be the feeling of someone watching and chasing through the trees.

4) Trollwood Park, Fargo: The Pauper Cemetery

Trollwood Park is home to a very beautiful performing arts school....which just happens to be on the land of a pauper's cemetery. There are many who are happy to help you find the location of the three graves which have been given some stone monuments to honor the dead. When the students begin to play, the bluish gray apparition appears to dance around a willow tree in 19th century costuming. EVPs done there recently have recorded a farmer who used to live on the property telling everyone to get off his property. People have been reported as being followed. Someone being there one second and not there next is also another occurrence. Voices calling out to them and being touched by apparitions have also been reported.

3) North Dakota State University, Fargo: A Hanging By Heating Pipe

There are many sightings in the University. Most of it is believed to be made by a man who hung himself on a heating pipe during WWII. It is in Ceres Hall and in the basement that most of it occurs. When in the basement one can feel the hairs on the back of their neck stick up, strong feelings of fear build in the stomach, and there is suddenly a fight or flight mentality. On the third floor is actually where most people have seen the actual apparition. In Minard Hall it is a whole different story. Back in the 1920s the 4th floor attic was the dance room of this building which was built in 1901. There is no record of what happened, but what we do know is that one morning the janitor found two people dead up there. It was believed to be a double homicide. After that day, the dance room was turned into the zoology lab. In the '60s it was shut up, but kids still sneak up there for séance. There is a very strong feeling of something watching you.

2) Sage Hill Bed and Breakfast, Anamoose: Cigar Smoke

The location of this bed and breakfast was the first school house in North Dakota in the 1800s. Unfortunately there was a very terrible fire in which the superintendent and a student died in a fire started by a coal burning stove. When it was turned into a bed and breakfast is when the hauntings started. As they started remodeling there were things disappearing, moving, and moaning to go with it. Lights will flicker on and off and the light in the cellar could not be turned off. Also one day while they were all working to convert the school house they started to smell cigar smoke. When they went down to the cellar they not only found the cigar smoke, but they also found a cigar that was still hot down there. Apparently, the superintendent was a huge cigar smoker. Although things are a little better now you can still feel hair going up on the back of your neck, feelings of someone watching you intently and cold spots all throughout.

1) Old Luger Hotel, Fort Yates: A Little Girl In White

This house was built in the 1960s. The main floor houses Richard Luger and family, but the rooms 1-6 are for one night stays or for those who would like to rent them. Luger gets complaints about room number four. It seems that there is a girl who stands at the end of the bed in a white gown and with long curly hair. She giggles throughout the day, moves things around, is known to make things fall and opens the closet door. Rich doesn't know what to say. He built the house with his grandfather and doesn't know of anything that could have caused the haunting. His daughter sleeps in room six and her sister in room four. Many times the girl in room six has seen the little girl run pass her and enter room four. The basement is also haunted by a man, an old woman, and two women. The man and the old woman are rarely heard, but the two women are often heard talking. The hauntings are very strange since there is no probable cause for them, although who knows what has been on or under that ground before then.

Please remember if you decide to visit these spots that some are public property and must be respected to the utmost. Otherwise have fun on your little ghost hunts and let me know next time you come across an interesting haunt. I'm always excited to hear about them.
